Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour One of the worlds oldest salt mine. It is located in Wieliczka near Krakow. From the thirteenth century to 1772 together with the salt mine “Bochnia” was included in the county of Cracow. The salts extracted from the mines and the Miocene and songs were accompanied by a tectonic shift in the Alpine Orogeny present site from its original location at a distance of at least tens of kilometers. In 1976 the mine was included in the national register of historic monuments. Two years later, in 1978, inscribed by UNESCO on the first UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage. In 1989, the Salt Mine “Wieliczka” expanded the list of World Heritage in Danger, which was removed in 1998. Since 1994, it is also a monument of Polish history. 30 June 1996 ceased entirely exploitation of the deposit.
